# About this library

## What it is

The Unity Workflow Library is a free collection of workflows and rules for building Unity games: scene flow, legal checks, project setup, C#, testing, DOTS, netcode, UI, art, performance, builds and live services.

It is written for two readers at once: people who build games, and the coding agents that help them. Every page has a readable web version and a plain Markdown twin, so an agent can load the same rules a person reads.

## Where the rules come from

- **Field-tested.** Each rule was written after a real problem came up on a shipped or in-production Unity project, then checked again before it was kept.
- **Scrubbed and generalized.** Project names, people, internal tools and anything that could identify a specific game have been removed. What is left is the general lesson and how to check for it.
- **Short and checkable.** Most rules name the trap, why it happens, and a concrete check you can run.

## Locked vs customizable

Some rules are locked: they describe how Unity, C# or a platform actually behaves, and ignoring them causes bugs. Others are defaults you can change to suit your team, such as naming or folder layout. The "Customize the rules" section explains which is which and how to adapt them.

## How it is maintained

The library is run by a small set of separate roles, held by people or agents:

- **Creator** owns the rules and decides what goes in, what changes and what is cut.
- **Developer** builds and maintains this website.
- **Site runner** publishes approved changes and checks the site stays healthy.
- **Feedback** collects reader reports and questions and passes them on.
- **Optimizer** looks for gaps, duplicates and unclear rules and proposes improvements.

Each role only does its own job. Reader feedback can suggest a change, but only the creator approves rule text, and nothing is published without a privacy check.

## Not legal advice

The library includes a pre-ship checklist for licences, AI-generated content, names and store rules, but it is not legal advice. Read the [Legality & liability page](/workflows/legality-liability/) and talk to a qualified lawyer for decisions about your own project.

## Free, no tracking

The site is free to read and use. It runs no ad networks, no trackers and no external scripts. A single static sponsor slot may be used to support the work.
